Al-Qalam University Katsina to Hold 16th Convocation Ceremony

Al-Qalam University Katsina has announced its plans for the 16th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to take place from Wednesday, December 4, to Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing held in his office on Monday, December 2, 2024, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, provided detailed information about the event. He emphasized the university’s commitment to holding convocation ceremonies annually, adding that 1,433 graduates from the 2023–2024 academic session will receive their degrees this year.
Breakdown of Graduates:
- First Class Honours: 22
- Second Class Upper: 218
- Second Class Lower: 641
- Third Class: 499
- Pass Degrees: 53
Additionally, the university will confer the following postgraduate degrees:
- Ph.D.: 7 recipients
- MA/MSc: 2 recipients
- Professional Master’s: 12 recipients
Event Highlights
Professor Yauri outlined key activities planned for the ceremony:
- Wednesday, December 4: Opening ceremony at the university sports complex at 4:00 PM.
- Thursday, December 5: Grand finale of the Qur’anic Recitation Competition at 10:00 AM in the ICT Hall.
- Friday, December 6: Pre-convocation lecture at Muhammad Lawal Kaita Hall at 4:00 PM. Professor Ahmad Bello Dogarawa will deliver a lecture on “Business Freedom and Tax Reforms in Nigeria: Aligning Economic Realities with Government Policies.”
- Saturday, December 7: Main convocation ceremony at the university premises at 10:00 AM, featuring degree awards and special honors.
One of the key attractions of this year’s ceremony is the Qur’anic Recitation Competition, a tradition established last year. The university’s Chancellor, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has donated ₦12 million for the competition, with ₦1 million awarded to both the male and female winners.
Honorary Degrees
The university will confer honorary degrees on four distinguished Nigerians:
1. Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua: Former Governor of Katsina State and President of Nigeria, to be posthumously awarded a Doctor of Letters degree.
2. Late Walin Daura Alhaji Sani Buhari: To receive a posthumous Doctor of Business Administration degree.
3. Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal: To receive a Doctor of Business Administration degree for his contributions to commerce and national development.
4. Alhaji Bilya Sanda (Khadimul Qur’an): To be awarded a Doctorate in Islamic Studies for his dedication to religious education and community service.
Professor Yauri extended an open invitation to parents, alumni, and members of the public to attend the grand event. “This is a moment of celebration for our students, their families, and the university community. We look forward to welcoming everyone to this joyous occasion,” he said.
